Calendar of Events 2010

August 15, 2010- ASHHS Quarterly Meeting- The meeting will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at the Walcott American Legion. The program is "A Young Boy's Journey from Tyranny to Freedom during World War II." Herbert Flemming, born in 1933 in a tiny east Prussian fishing village and now living in Inwood, W. Va., will talk about his experiences as a young boy during the years leading up to World War II, his family's experiences escaping from the on-rushing Soviet Army and their life as refugees living near Hamburg. For about a year and a half while the family was living near Hamburg, Herbert worked on a farm and attended school near Bredstedt in Schleswig-Holstein. Following his father's release from a Russian POW camp, the family immigrated to American in 1951. Later, during the Korean Conflict, Herbert was drafted into the Army and returned to Germany, occupying his old country in an American uniform. He has chronicled his experiences in a book, "From Hitler Youth to American Soldier."

Sept. 9-11, 2011 - Platt Konference - To be held in Wausau, Wisconsin.

November 21, 2010- ASHHS Quarterly Meeting- The meeting will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010 at the Walcott American Legion. The program will be by Mark Schlenker, who will make a presentation entitled "From Small Town Lawyer to Diplomat: Reflections on my Service as Honorary Consul of Germany and France in Iowa."
