November 20,2011- ASHHS Annual Meeting will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, Nov 20, 2011, at the Walcott American Legion, 121 Bryant St., Walcott, Iowa. The program will focus on German Proverbs. A proverb is an expression that states a general truth or gives advice. While language is a distinctive characteristic of a culture, the element of language that best encapsulates a society's values and beliefs is its proverbs.While some can be humorous, many are the result of past experiences. February 19, 2012- ASHHS Quarterly Meeting will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at the Walcott American Legion, 121 Bryant St., Walcott, Iowa. The program for February is family history. The February program will feature a presentation by Mary Kay Shanley, an author from West Des Moines, Iowa, who will talk about "The Magic of our Memories." Iowans are a people with roots. We grow well in the black soil that blankets our state, in this land between two rivers. Mary Kay Shanley is the author of 10 books, including "She Taught Me to Eat Artichokes: and " The Memory Box," and is an instructor at the University of Iowa's Summer Writing Festival.
